4K Enrollment

Enrollment for 2025-2026 Starts January 1, 2025

    • The Burlington Area School District welcomes future 4K students to the BASD family!  We understand that starting school can create feelings of both excitement and uncertainty for students and their parents/guardians.  Please know that BASD staff will help families every step of the way!  

  • To meet the unique needs of a student or family, families have choices when it comes to enrolling in 4K in BASD:

    • Two Programs: We offer both a Traditional 4K and a Montessori 4K program.
    • Full-day 4K or Half-day 4K: BASD offers a full-day 4K option. Full-day is a 7.5-hour program that will include lunch and rest time. Half-day is a 3.5-hour program offered in the morning.

    • Students should be fully potty trained. This includes removing clothing, using the toilet, wiping, and redressing.
    • Students should be able to independently wipe themselves using toilet paper.
    • Students should be able to identify when they need to “go,” and be able to tell a teacher or adult.
    • Students should come to school wearing underwear, not pull-ups.

    • Supports for toileting at school include hands off, verbal coaching, and promoting independence.
    • If you have questions about your child's readiness for 4K, please talk with staff at the 4K screening.

I want to enroll a 4K student and...

    • Online New Student Registration Form to get a username and password in Skyward Family Access.
    • Find an email from Skyward with a new username and password and the link to the enrollment application form.
    • Complete the “application form.”

    • Wisconsin’s open enrollment window takes place February 3 - April 30, 2025.
    • Forms are available on DPI's open enrollment webpage.
    • Open enrollment students should also complete the “This is the first time I’ve enrolled a student in BASD.” instructions.
    • Families will be notified in the beginning of June if the student was accepted into BASD. 

Common Questions

    • Enrollment for the 2025-2026 school year begins in January 2025. 4K enrollment is for children who will be age 4 on or before September 1, 2025 and plan to attend 4-year-old (full-day or half-day) kindergarten in the Burlington Area School District. 5K enrollment is for children who will be age 5 on or before September 1, 2025 and plan to attend 5-year-old (full-day) in the Burlington Area School District.

    • There is a lot that goes into finalizing where students will attend 4K. BASD waits until open enrollment (people from outside the district boundaries) closes in late April. Then we evaluate staffing, busing, and other factors. Families will learn about placement (Traditional or Montessori) in late May - early June.

    • Thomas Bus Service is the district's primary transportation provider.  Thomas Bus Service emails families route information in August. For questions, call Thomas Bus Service at 262-763-7564. Dousman Bus Service transports students with special needs. 

    • The District Calendar is available on the district's webpage (right-hand column). To help families plan, the school board approves calendars two years in advance. BASD uses a staggered start for kindergarten students.

    • BASD 4K students can apply for the district's before/after-school care program.

  • Enroll New Student in Skyward (click on the scenario above that best describes you to determine how to start). Within Skyward, you will complete:

    • Student Information (complete Racial/Ethnic Form and Home Language Survey)
    • Parent/Guardian Information
    • Medical Dental Information. This is the doctor's contact information. Health Forms can be turned into the school's health aide before school starts. 
    • Emergency Contact Information
    • Requested Documents: Upload photos of Birth Certificate and Proof of Residency
    • 4K selections

    • The district will send an email to confirm we received the enrollment. 
    • The district will attach health forms that can be turned in before school starts (preferably no later than August).
    • The district will share details about the 4K Screening.
    • Step Three: Attend 4K Screening on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at Dyer Elementary School, 201 S. Kendrick Avenue, Burlington, WI. 
    • Step Four: The district will send placement information in late May-early June.
    • Step Five: In August, all students register for the school year to update contact information and pay student fees.
    • Step Six: Attend the school's open house on August 27, 2025 to meet your child's 4K teacher.​​​​​ 
    • Step Seven: Attend the first day of school!  BASD has a staggered start date for 4K to help students get comfortable in their classroom and to get to know the teacher.
