Plymouth Children's Center
Plymouth Children’s Center is state-licensed and accredited by the National Accreditation Commission for Early Care and Education Programs (NAC) that offers childcare. The curriculum and lesson plans are aligned with Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards and are developmentally appropriate for the age span of the children in the group. Plans are implemented with attention to the different needs, interests, and developmental levels of those children. We place emphasis on the “process” of learning rather than on the “finished product.” The teachers at Plymouth provide a nurturing environment where children can experience a variety of activities, develop skills, and make new friends.
School-Aged Care
Plymouth Children's Center offers before and after school care for children ages five through twelve years, at Waller and Cooper schools. They provide care for school-age children when public schools are closed. The program offers outdoor play, snacks, individual ‘homework’ assistance, arts and crafts, planned activities based on our “theme” of the week, and free choice.
Before and after school care is also provided by BASD (location: Dyer Elementary School) on days when school is in session.
Learning Environment
Plymouth Children's Center provides two nutritious snacks and a balanced lunch each day. Snacks and lunches are based on the USDA Nutrition Guidelines. Menus are posted on the Parent Board and sent home monthly. Families may send a cold lunch from home if they choose but it must meet USDA guidelines. Equipment and toys are maintained in safe working condition and sanitized on a regular schedule. The staff is trained in CPR and first aid. Emergency evacuations are practiced monthly.
Staff communicates on the progress of children through conferences, newsletters, as well as day-to-day verbal and written communication with parents. Plymouth Children’s Center curriculum is developmentally appropriate for each individual child. Materials are bias-free. At Plymouth, our goal is for children to be actively involved in the learning process, and to develop a sense of curiosity and wonder. Each day provides a balance between quiet and active play, inside and outside activities (weather permitting), small and large muscle projects, group experience, and free choice.
