Special Education at BHS
Burlington Area School District provides a full range of Special Education services to students with handicapping conditions. Special Education specialists meet the academic, social, emotional, physical, and/or communication needs of individual students. They give them the tools to progress in a respectful and nurturing environment in order to participate as fully as possible in their community.
The high school offers a coffee shop and coffee cart operated by students with special needs during the 1st and 2nd hours. This provides students with job skills and independence. It creates positive interactions and builds up the community.
Some students, age 18-21 with special needs, continue their education through the Project Active Citizen (PAC) Program. The program, a collaboration with Waterford Union High School, helps this age level of students become responsible citizens in the community.
