- Great works are performed not by strength, but by perseverance. Be committed to your goals with the willingness to test your limits and the courage to succeed.
- Success is achieved not by luck, but by habit. Plan ahead and manage your time. Be willing to work hard and you will find success.
- Set goals and make plans to reach them. Remember that goals are dreams with deadlines.
- Get involved in the total school experience. The level of school spirit is determined not by what the school provides for you, but by what you give back to the school community. Show your enthusiasm for projects that enhance the quality of life for your school family and the greater community.
We look forward to working with you and your family to assist you in learning how to become a self-directed and independent life-long learner.
History of Burlington High School
Burlington, Wisconsin has a long tradition of providing secondary education. The first high school diploma was granted to Harriet Dyer in 1863, who attended high school at the Lincoln School which opened in 1859. When the community outgrew the Lincoln School, the community supported building a new Conkey Street School, later renamed Cooper School (demolished in 1970). This building served as the high school from 1897-1925. Then the community came together again to build a new high school on Robert St. This school served high school students from 1925 - 2000, then as the middle school from 2000 - 2021.
Today, students attend Burlington High School on McCanna Parkway. In the late 1990s, the community supported the purchase of the 90-acre Koenen farm to build a campus with the high school, Aurora Wellness Center, and Gateway Technical College all in close proximity. The 22-year old high school provides many opportunities for students and serves as the location for many community events. Students have access to the nearby HERO Center to gain skills to serve as EMTs, construction workers, and certified nurses. The school is also nearby Bushnell Park, Rockland Lake, and YMCA’s Camp MacLean.
The high school has many amenities including a large gym, a weight room, a 400-seat auditorium, radio station - WBSD, coffee shop operated through the special education department for vocational training, several skills-based labs for teaching auto repair, construction, chemicals, culinary arts, and The greatest strength at BHS is teachers and staff build long-term relationships with their students.
