Derek Straight is excited to move into the role of Dr. Edward G. Dyer Elementary

School Principal for the 2023-24 school year!

Mr. Straight has a long history of education spanning over 30 years. Beginning with teaching in the elementary setting, he then moved to the middle school level. Mr. Straight then spent the next 22 years as an elementary principal and central office director in 4 different school districts in Illinois. After retiring from education in Illinois, Mr. Straight went back into the classroom to "practice what he preached". He is now excited to get back into the leadership role after having spent 2 years as a teacher at BASD.

Principal Straight earned his bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Saint Mary's University in Winona, MN and master’s degrees in Curriculum/Instruction and Educational Leadership from National Louis University in Wheeling, IL.

Spending time with family and being outdoors as much as possible gives Mr. Straight great joy.

Principal Straight looks forward to meeting the Dyer Community throughout the school year!
