4K - Bright Beginnings
A typical day in Burlington Area School District’s 4K program feels more like playtime than school. This playtime, by design, develops the skills children need for school.
The District started its tuition-free 4K program in 2014, partnering with established community pre-school sites including Acelero Learning Wisconsin (Head Start), Noah’s Ark, and Plymouth Center. Every child who turns 4 before September 1 living within Burlington Area School District can enroll. Once enrolled, the family will receive information on a screening to assess kindergarten readiness as well as vision and hearing.
The 4K curriculum is based on the Wisconsin Model Early Learning Standards. This creates play-based experiences that explore music, art, and gross motor activities as well as literacy, math, science, and social studies. 4K options in Burlington
Elementary schools offer half-day traditional programs and a Montessori program at Dyer Elementary. There are some 4K sites that give parents an option of all-day wrap-around care with half-day 4K. Acelero Head Start program is full day.
